Paul D. Houk

Paul D. Houk, 73, of Bucyrus died Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Grant Medical Center in Columbus from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

The youngest of 10 children, Paul was born in Crawford County on May 31, 1940 to the late Clifford and Edith (Bilger) Houk. He graduated from Mt. Zion High School in 1958 and on December 27, 1962 he married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn J. Assenheimer, who survives. In 1963, Paul was drafted and proudly served with the US Army until 1965. He returned home and worked at Galion Iron Works for ten years until hiring in at Timken where he worked until retiring in 1999.

Paul lived a life of service and there wasn't a project or task that he couldn't complete. He was proud to have helped the Starr family for 26 years with farming. He was also gifted in electrical work and operated Paul's Electric where he wired homes for Ken Miller and others. He was quick to help neighbors with lawn work and tasks around their homes. Paul was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee and also used his handyman skills at the church when needed.

Family was Paul's first priority. He loved spending time with them so that he could teach them and share his gifts. He put his woodworking talents to use by building chairs and wooden toys for all family members. Traveling was a favorite of his and he and Marilyn enjoyed many trips throughout North America over the years but his favorite time was when they celebrated their 50th anniversary and had the entire family join them at Maumee Bay for a wonderful celebration.

Paul is survived by his bride of over 50 years, Marilyn; their children, Michelle Anne (Reece) Bowen and Brian Christopher (Katrina) Houk; four grandchildren, Madeline Bowen, Kendra Houk, Karsten Houk and Jennifer (Kyle) Stallard; one great granddaughter, Kinley Mae Stallard; brother, Richard (Betty) Houk of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Wilma (Jim) Little of LaRue and June Hoffman of Willard; brother-in-law, Harold Brooks of Bucyrus; sister-in-law, Phyllis Watkins of Columbus Grove and a number of beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his siblings, Arthur Houk, Harold Houk, Clifford "Jack" Houk, Clarence Houk, Ula Feighner and Marjorie Brooks.

The Houk family will receive friends Wednesday, October 23 from 4-8 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus and on Thursday from 10-11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion UMC where the funeral will begin at 11:00 with Pastor Matt Wilson officiating.
