Patricia Olive Spears, 72, of Bucyrus and formerly of North Robinson, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at her daughter’s home in Bucyrus where she was being cared for by her three daughters.
She was born on July 24, 1941 in Columbus to the late John Stuckman and Rosetta Bowser and was raised by John and his wife Bertha. Throughout her life, Patricia had the opportunity of living in various communities but really enjoyed her years spent in North Robinson.
She was a very spunky and independent lady who loved being outdoors. Earlier in life, she raced funny cars at both Norwalk and Salem race tracks but she did settle down a little and found time for camping and fishing and an occasional game of shuffleboard with family and friends. Patricia’s family thoroughly loved her homemade biscuits, fried chicken, potatoes and brown beans. She enjoyed listening to her 50’s music, working in her flower garden and her favorite color was green. Patty collected rocks, arrowheads, frogs, Fenton Glass and angels and still found time to go thrift store shopping which gave her a chance to add to her collections.
Patricia had a big heart and always put her children ahead of herself. As a mom, she saw to it that her children were always fed, clean and cared for. She supported the 700 Club and also sponsored a child overseas. Patty also had a soft spot in her heart for animals, especially her dog Baby and cat Snowflake.
From her first marriage she has two children who survive, Carl and Candy, along with their families. Patricia was married to Earl P. Spears from 1967 until his death in 1990 and they had three children who survive: daughter, Tammy (Dale) Knickel and their children, Ollie Hootman, C.J. Hootman and Chanelle (Tim) White who have a son, Turner; daughter, Tenia (Andy) Thoroughman and their children, Ciera and Anthony “Peewee” Thoroughman; and youngest daughter, Teresa Spears and her son, Micah Earl Spears along with Teresa’s niece, Brandy Brown who considered Patty as a grandma. Also surviving is her brother, Robert Stuckman, and a niece and nephew.
Patricia’s funeral will be held Friday, May 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service with Pastor Keith Showalter officiating. Friends may call three hours prior, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., and burial will follow in Crawford County Memory Gardens.
Because of her grandson Micah having cystic fibrosis, memorial contributions may be given to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation through the funeral home.
