Norman E. Weinandy

Norman E. Weinandy, 92, died early Monday, October 7, 2024 at Magnolia Terrace Assisted Living in Galion where he had been a resident for the past year.

He was born in Tiffin on April 8, 1932 to the late Edward A. and Florence E. (Hoerig) Weinandy. He graduated from Calvert High School in 1950. Norman served in the 223rd Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division of the US Army during the Korean Conflict and returned to Ohio where he worked as a Tool and Die Man for Cobey Manufacturing, General Motors, and The Ford Motor Company from which he retired. Norman met Gloria Ziegler on a double blind date. She is not the girl he started the date with, but she is the one he fell in love with. They were married on August 30, 1952 and shared 61 years of marriage when Gloria preceded him in death in August 2013.

Hard work, kindness, and generosity were the resounding traits that Norman left in this world. There wasn’t a family member, neighbor, or child he didn’t care about and he took joy, especially in his golden years, in taking care of others’ needs. From seeing that Gloria could go to her favorite sports events, to assuring a neighbor child had a bicycle, to having pop and candy favorites of fellow residents and staff in his room, Norman loved taking care of people. He was a jack of nearly all trades, enjoyed fishing, stained glass work, assembling computers, solving jigsaw puzzles, and playing BINGO. Norman was a lifelong Catholic, a member of AmVets Post 27, American Legion Post 181, VFW Post 1078, and Moose Lodge #669. He was proud to have served his country and humbled to go on an Honor Flight.

Norman is survived by five children, Kathleen Eimer, Norman (Shelly) Weinandy, Gregg (Ellen) Weinandy, Candy Williams, and Kevin Weinandy; eight grandchildren, Johnny (Tara) Lykins Jr., Wendy (Tony) Szekely, Lance Eimer, Erica Weinandy (Craig Goehler), Ethan Weinandy, Evan Weinandy, David Weinandy (Taina Andreotti Sivieri), and Douglas Weinandy; great grandchildren, Kennedy, Kayla, Jillian, Brooklyn, Louis, Lela, and Quenyn; sister, Eugenia Callahan; brother, James Weinandy; along with nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by son-in-law, Michael Williams and sister, Beatrice “Bede” Wahrer.

Services will be held on Sunday, October 13 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Family will receive friends from 2-3:55 pm. Military Rites will be given at 4:00 pm by the US Army Honor Guard, followed by The Funeral Liturgy by Fr. Paul Fahrbach. He will be laid to rest next to Gloria in Oakwood Cemetery privately.

Those wishing to make a memorial donation may make it payable to a charity of the donor’s choice and give through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Norman’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
