Norman L. Campbell, 79, of Nevada, died March 17, 2021 at Altercare of Bucyrus.
Norman was born March 28, 1941 to the late Dalton and Eleanor (Snavely) Campbell in Bucyrus. He graduated from Holmes Liberty High School in 1959. Norman met the love of his life, Caroline George, through a mutual friend and they got married on June 14, 1975. During his life he worked at many places including Swan Rubber, Galion Dresser, Peabody Galion, Cooper’s Mill, and he retired from Timken. Norman had also gone back to school to earn his Bachelor’s in Business at the Ohio State University and graduated in 1995.
Norman loved his family. He enjoyed playing euchre and pinochle with them and always found time to check up on his kids and grandkids with a phone call. Five of his grandchildren also were assisted by their grandpa’s college scholarship fund. Norman also loved spending time with Caroline, whether at home or on a trip. Their favorite trip they took was when they went up north and visited different zoos. He also enjoyed visiting forts and was a big World War II buff. When he wasn’t traveling, he was either watching westerns or working in his vegetable garden. Norman’s favorite vegetable to grow was corn, but he always liked to plant different vegetables from time to time. Norman and Caroline also had an orchard where they grew pears, apples, grapes, peaches, and almonds. Their daughter, Brenda, also helped in the garden and Caroline would can and freeze what they grew. Norman was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bucyrus and served as an elder.
Norman is survived by his wife of 45 years; children Doug Campbell, Beth Cotsmire, Brenda (Tim) Mutchler, and Bryan Campbell; grandchildren Keith Cotsmire, Adam Cotsmire, Hannah Mutchler, Spencer Mutchler, Logan Campbell, Chase Campbell, and Mary Campbell; sisters Jan (Jerry) Kottyan and Melanie (Jerry) Deiber; and brothers-in-law Art (Donna) George and John (Cheryl) George. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his nephew Michael George, father-in-law Bill George, mother-in-law Mary Jane George, daughter-in-law Bonnie Campbell, and brothers-in-law Matt George and Don Fadley.
Norman’s graveside service will take place Saturday, March 20 at 1:00 pm in Oakwood Cemetery with Pastor Jeremy McNeill officiating. Memorial contributions can be made payable to the First Presbyterian Church of Bucyrus or to the National Wildlife Federation and can be sent to Wise Funeral Service at 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. Memories and photos can be shared on Norman’s tribute wall.
