Norman J. Egnor

Norman Joseph Egnor, 89, of Bucyrus, passed peacefully on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Altercare of Bucyrus.

Norman was born April 7, 1932 in Marion, Ohio to the late Victor Herbert and Ellen Virginia (Robinson) Egnor. He graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1950 and a short time later joined the Navy. Norman served his country for two years during the Korean Conflict and was stationed on the USS Antietam. On January 23, 1955, he married Beverly Ann Dewitt and she preceded him in death on October 16, 2016.

Norm completed his training at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy and went onto serve with the Patrol for 10 years. He was proud to have helped make Ohio roads safer but with his sons growing, he wanted to have a more active role in the lives of his family so he became a Claims Adjustor with Celina Insurance. This position brought the family to Bucyrus in 1961, the place he called home. Norm moved on and became a Claims Manager with United Ohio/Ohio Mutual and would retire at the age of 62 as their VP of Claims in 1992.

Norm lived a fun life. He enjoyed many good times and made countless memories with his family through their time together at Indian Lake, their various travels and their many stays in Myrtle Beach. In his earlier years, he was an avid bowler and enjoyed running the youth bowling league at Crawford Lanes. Playing golf was one of the things that made Norm happiest. He golfed many rounds with his sons, friends and when Bev took up the game, this gave them a common happiness. He just wasn’t as fortunate as her when it came to hole in ones.

Norm was a 60 plus year member of the Dayton Masonic Lodge; a member of both the Bucyrus Moose and Elks Lodge where he and friends socialized, as well as discussed their previous round of golf. His mornings began with the daily newspaper, and he liked following the Buckeyes and Browns. For relaxation, Norm enjoyed his daily cigar and an occasional vodka martini.

Norm is survived by his son, Timothy Michael “Mike” Egnor; two grandchildren, Meghan Egnor and fiancé, Jake Fink and McKenzie Egnor; a great granddaughter, Gabriella as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Norm was preceded in death by a son, Richard Patrick “Pat” Egnor and four siblings, Phoebe Keiser, Victor Egnor, Charles Egnor and Clarence William “Bill” Egnor.

His family will receive friends from 11-12:55 pm Friday, March 18 at Wise Funeral Service where his service will begin at 1:00 pm that day with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, where full Military Rites will be provided by the Navy Honor Guard and the Bucyrus Veterans Military Funeral Detail.

Donations can be made payable to the donor’s choice and these gifts will be accepted through the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy can be shared on his tribute page.
