Nancy C. Corwin, 76, of Mansfield, died Sunday morning, October 9, 2011 at MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield following some lengthy health issues.
She was born February 6, 1935 in Bucyrus to the late Frank and Helen (Utz) Howard and on February 21, 1953 she married Robert L. "Louie" Corwin who preceded her in death on January 18, 1989. Nancy graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1954 and occasionally worked outside of the home but spent most of her time trying to control her children.
Nancy was a very good cook and each day of the week brought a designated meal, whether it be salmon patties, Polish sausage or slumgoliam it was prepared week after week. She instilled right from wrong in her family by her religious values from her early Presbyterian Church years all through her membership in the Methodist Churches. She was active as a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed helping out with Bible schools. Nancy was formerly a Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Cameron Hospital Auxiliary in Angola, IN and belonged to the UM Women.
Pets were a big part of her life, chihuahua dogs, birds and cats, she loved them all. Nancy took a great interest in studying Egyptian history and had the privilege of sharing at the local schools on an annual basis. She enjoyed shopping, watching TV Land and old John Wayne movies but her two greatest joys were doing ceramics and playing games with her grandchildren.
She is survived by four children, Pastor Mike Corwin and wife Julie of Bucyrus, Andy Corwin and wife Kim of Crestline, Chris Corwin and wife Roberta of Fremont, Indiana and Carolyn Laferty of Mansfield; 15 grandchildren, Stacy (Joe) Ricker, Aaron (Jill) Corwin, Robert (Nichole) Corwin, Jeremy (Christine) Corwin, Chuck Corwin, Phillip (Jennifer) Corwin, Jennifer Corwin, Heather (Jeremy) Cleland, Justin (Jennifer) Lawhorn, Alisha Parrish, Louie (Nichole Via, fiancé) Corwin, Dennis Jr. (Lisa) Laferty, Robin Laferty, Brian Laferty and Shaun Laferty along with 29 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are two grandchildren, Melissa Corwin and Megan Laferty; one brother, Jim Howard and a sister Betty Spears.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 11 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Private funeral services for family will be held Wednesday at Oakwood Cemetery with her son, Pastor Mike leading and sharing memories of mom. Contributions may be given to MedCentral Hospice or to the Kidney Foundation through the funeral home.
