Myrtle M. Shearer, 81, of Bucyrus died early Thursday, November 15, 2018 at St. Francis Home in Tiffin where she received tremendous, loving care as a resident since 2016 while living with dementia.
She was born January 25, 1937 in Clarksburg, West Virginia to the late Thomas Ezra and Helen Clarice (Thompson) Holliday. After graduating from high school, Myrtle’s ministry in the Salvation Army took her to a few states including Texas, Maryland, and Alabama where she was married to the late F.L. “Skip” Shearer who preceded her in death in 1990. This is also where she began to nurture a love for babies while working in a home for unwed mothers. After moving to Bucyrus, she continued working with the Salvation Army and to care of babies as a nurse in the maternity wards of Bucyrus and Galion Hospitals. She was a longtime member of the Bucyrus Nazarene Church and in years past, she was a Home League Lady, enjoyed meeting with her garden club, and quilting and crocheting with her sister and friends.
Myrtle is survived by her only child, Stephanee Borer; granddaughter, Nicole (Matt) Miller; great grandson, Bryson James Miller; many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews including locals, Michael Cain, Kim McLeod and her children, Shawn and Carrie, and Douglas (Cris) Cain and his children, Jason, Jennifer, and Paige; and her dog and pride and joy, Precious.
In addition to her parents and former husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas E. Holliday; sister, Phyllis Cain; and nephew, Jeff Cain.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 18 from 4-7 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus and her funeral will be Monday at 11:00 am at Bucyrus Nazarene Church with Pastor Ray LaSalle officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made payable to Bucyrus Nazarene Church, St. Francis Home, or Alzheimer’s Association through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Myrtle’s Tribute Wall.
