Mildred Schiefer

Mildred G. Schiefer, 92, longtime resident of Crawford County, died unexpectedly after a few weeks of poor health on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Wood County Hospital in Bowling Green, Ohio where she had lived in recent months.

She was born May 27, 1923 in Butler County, Pennsylvania to the late William and Elva (Cable) Beighey. After graduating from Evans City (Pa.) High School in 1940, she moved to Tiro, where her uncle lived, to begin working. Her coworkers introduced Millie to their brother, Virgil S. Schiefer and, after a brief courtship, they were married on October 4, 1941. Mr. Schiefer preceded her in death October 5, 2004.

Millie worked as a homemaker and was a member of the former Crouse Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School. After moving to Bucyrus, she worshipped at Good Hope Lutheran Church and was currently a member of LifePoint Community Church in Plymouth. She and Virgil enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. They fished in Lake Erie and also looked forward to wintering and fishing in the Tarpon Springs, Florida area in the late 80s. She was a faithful blood donor, giving over five gallons, and volunteered for the Red Cross as well.

Mrs. Schiefer is survived by four children, Leslie “Bud” (Carole) Schiefer of Kissimmee, Florida, Debby (Mike) Stinehelfer of Solon, Tom (Vickie) Schiefer of Bucyrus, and Randall (Ruth) Schiefer of Rotunda West, Florida; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband of 63 years, Millie was preceded in death by her brother, Ray Beighey.

Millie donated her body to The Ohio State University Division of Anatomy and will later be laid to rest in the Oakwood Cemetery Columbarium. The Schiefer family will hold a service celebrating Millie’s life at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 28 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St. in Bucyrus and they will receive friends a half hour prior to her service.

Memorial donations are encouraged to be given to the Gideons through the funeral home. Memories can be shared on her Tribute Wall.
