Mike L. Schnabel

Michael Lee Schnabel 74, of Bucyrus died Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Marion General Hospital following a recent diagnosis of esophageal cancer.

He was born May 5, 1948 in Bucyrus to the late Donald G. and Patricia R. (Shaw) Schnabel. In 1966, Mike enlisted and served in the Marine Corps. Following his service time, he returned home and worked at Shunk Mfg. for a few years. In 1976 he was hired in at Whirlpool, where he worked fulltime until 2012 and continued parttime until 2020.

Mike was the type of guy who like to keep busy and was often on the go. In his earlier years, he was heavy into motorcycle customization and rebuilt many bikes which he enjoyed riding, as well as sold to others. He and friends enjoyed many wild and fun rides as well as took in many bike shows. Following his motorcycle years, he still felt the need to tinker with things and kept busy tweaking his fishing rods so they were ready to cast at area reservoirs and at Lake Erie. He repaired a lot of computer equipment and enjoyed surfing the internet. When there was down time, to enjoyed rooting for the Cleveland Browns or watching old westerns. Mike was formerly a member of the Bucyrus Moose Lodge and the American Legion.

He is survived by siblings, Douglas (Dawn) Schnabel and Christine Schnabel; many nieces and nephews; his girlfriend, Cecilia Guss and some close friends.

Mike’s family plans to celebrate his life privately but should someone wish to contribute in his memory, friends are encouraged to give to a charity of their choice. These gifts will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service and expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on his tribute wall.
