Michael Kent, 73, of Bucyrus, died unexpectedly on Friday, August 19, 2022 at Bucyrus Community Hospital.
He was born April 6, 1949 in Bucyrus, Ohio to the late Archie and Artice (Taylor) Kent. Mike was a 1967 graduate of Wynford High School and on March 30, 1969, married Barbara Jean Candel who survives. Mike worked at Timken for 32 years before retiring in 2000 and had also been a longtime Certified Realtor. Following his retirement, he worked at Rush Tool & Pattern, Country Star and also taught Adult Education at Pioneer for a number of years.
Mike was happiest when talking with people. He enjoyed many Wednesday mornings drinking coffee with other retirees at McDonald’s and he and Barb went out to eat with friends on a weekly basis. Some of his favorite spots were Carolyn’s Kitchen, Phil’s Deli and Mike was always up for a fried bologna sandwich from G & R Tavern in Waldo. He had a great sense of humor, and one could always depend on Mike for great advice when needed. He was active in the lives of his children and grandchildren, and they created countless memories on their annual beach vacations. In addition to being around people, his other hobby was fishing. For relaxation, Mike was always up for a drive and he and Barb have covered every road in the county and then some.
Mike was a member of Woodlawn UMC, Bucyrus Moose Lodge and the NRA.
In addition to Barb, his wife of 53 years, Mike will be deeply missed by his children, Scott (Kimberly) Kent and Laurie (Scott) Heinle; grandchildren, Mason Kent, Dalton Kent, Madison Kent, Grant Heinle, Andrew Heinle and Sammy Heinle. Mike is also survived by a brother, Chuck (Mary) Kent; brothers-in-law, Jim Candel and Larry Boyle and a sister-in-law, Beckie Kent. He was preceded in death by siblings, David Kent and Jennifer Boyle.
A visitation for Mike will be held from 11 – 1:55 pm Thursday, August 25 at Wise Funeral Service, where his funeral will follow that day at 2:00 pm with longtime family friend, Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. He will be privately laid to rest in Brokensword Cemetery at a later date.
If desired, donations can be made payable to either Humane Society Serving Crawford County or to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. These gifts will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service and online memories are encouraged to be shared on his tribute wall.
