Michael C. Schiefer, 65, of Bucyrus died early Wednesday morning, May 1, 2013 in the Bucyrus Community Hospital E.R. after becoming ill in recent months.
He was born June 6, 1947 in Bucyrus to the late Robert and Arleta (Lust) Schiefer. He attended school at Holmes-Liberty and graduated with the Wynford Class of 1965. Michael made his way to Colorado where his brother was living and graduated from Colorado State University with degrees in Forestry and Engineering. He returned to Ohio and lived in Columbus where he worked as an engineer for the ODNR Division of Soil and Water Resources. While in Columbus, Michael earned a Master of International Studies from The Ohio State University and served six years in the Ohio National Guard. Michael returned to Bucyrus after retirement to farm part-time at his family home.
Michael is survived by his brother, Randall (Ronda) Schiefer of Lufkin, Texas; three nieces, Anne Rivers Schiefer Phillips (Guy) of Indianola, Miss., Ashley Ryan Schiefer of Madison, Miss. and Dr. Amanda Reagan Schiefer (Chad) also of Madison; one great nephew, Ashton Schiefer Phillips of Indianola and his cousins.
Michael will be remembered as a hard worker who kept to himself. He enjoyed keeping up on investments and his lifelong love of all facets of farming. He grew up attending church at the former Pleasant Home Evangelical United Brethren Church.
Friends are encouraged to gather in Oakwood Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013 for Michael's graveside funeral with Rev. Don Kraps officiating. Memorial donations may be given to the Heartland of Bucyrus Activities Fund through Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus.
