Michael A. Kennedy

Michael A. Kennedy, 79, of Bucyrus died Friday, March 5, 2021 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus after a recent series of illnesses.

He was born November 20, 1941 in Bucyrus to the late Paul C. and Virginia M. (Crall) Kennedy. He attended Greenbriar (WVa) Military Academy his freshman year of high school before graduating from Bucyrus High in 1959. He then majored in history education at Ohio Northern University before becoming the third generation of Kennedys to study law at ONU. On August 11, 2000, Mike married Kathleen J. Crall who survives.

Attorney Kennedy’s law career included private practice in Bucyrus, Federal Land Bank in Louisville, Crawford County Court judge, acting municipal judge, and Common Pleas Magistrate. He was the third generation of Kennedy attorneys (with his grandfather, Otho, and father) to practice law for over 50 years. He served on the board of the Bucyrus Historical Society, supported the T&OC station restoration, volunteered at CONTACT, was a member of Bucyrus Masonic Lodge, and was formerly active in the Bucyrus Kiwanis Club. He was also a member of the Crawford County and Ohio Bar Associations.

Mike will be remembered for keeping a low profile and working behind the scenes for and with charities and people who were near and dear to his heart. He loved animals and the outdoors and always had a project he was working on. Mike always had a love for history and visiting historical sites. He also snuck away to his family lodge in Pennsylvania, his cabin in northern Michigan, and Lake Erie in more recent years. Since moving into the country, he spent as much time as he could outside taking care of the property. He was proud of his family and kept up with his grandchildren’s sports and interests.

Mike is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughters, Kelley (Tim) Bawmann of Fort Wayne and Jenifer (Jim) Manos of Dublin; stepdaughter, Katie Crall (Austin Howard) of Lexington; grandchildren, Chloe and Eli Bawmann and Julian, Regan, Caden, and Saylor Manos; brother, John (Joyce) Kennedy; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Pat (John) Myers.

Mike Kennedy’s services will take place on Saturday, March 13 at Bucyrus United Methodist Church where facial coverings are required. Friends may call from 1-2:55 pm and the memorial service will begin at 3:00 pm with Mike’s friend, Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. His burial in Oakwood Cemetery will take place on a later date.

Memorial donations can be made payable to Bucyrus Historical Society, Humane Society Serving Crawford County, CONTACT Crawford County, or a charity of the donor’s choice. This can be brought to the services or given at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus.
