May C. Laipply

May C. Laipply, 87, of Bucyrus passed away peacefully at Orchard Park Assisted Living on Saturday, March 26, 2016 surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born November 20, 1928 in Upper Sandusky to the late John and Ruth (Woessner) Wells. Her husband, Robert Laipply, preceded her in death on August 27, 2010. Also preceding her in death were her four brothers, Bobby, Laddie, Harry (her twin), and Ron Wells.

May graduated from Holmes-Liberty High School in 1946 and married her high school sweetheart on July 3, 1947. She served as Medical Records Director at Bucyrus Community Hospital for 23 years and retired in 1985.

May is survived by three children: Bob (Sandy) Laipply of Bucyrus, Cathe (Tim) Coleman of Crestline, and Gary (Thursa) Laipply of Ashland, Oregon; as well as eight grandchildren, Jason (Kelly) Laipply, Jennifer (Jim) Newman, Judson (Erin Dulaney) Laipply, Corey (Becky) Travis, Audra (Craig Schifer) Travis, Angela Travis, Rheana Laipply, and Kestral Laipply; eight great grandchildren: Beth and Carly Graham, Ryan Hawkins, Cole, Kaylee, and Kelsey Travis, Madalynn and Faith Schifer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

May enjoyed her family and loved sports. She could be seen at the ballparks when her husband played baseball and softball, and when her children played football, baseball, softball and track. This did not end there as her grandchildren and great grandchildren played these sports as well as soccer and volleyball. Both May and her husband were avid bowlers and golfers. She was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Browns, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. One of May’s favorite activities was making cookies with her family and she carried on a tradition started by her mother, Ruth Wells. Special cookies were made for each holiday and the family still makes these cookies.

May was selected as Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Women of Bucyrus in 1988. She was active in her community helping cook at the Salvation Army, reading to school children, and as a member of the Ohio Eastern Star and Secretary of AARP. She belonged to the Bucyrus United Methodist Church and was a former President of United Methodist Women. She loved to play cards and belonged to both a women’s Euchre club and a couples Euchre club for over 50 years.
