Mary L. Leuthold, 97, formerly of Bucyrus and Fort Myers, Florida died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, July 10, 2016 in Chesapeake, Virginia.
She was born in Middleport, Ohio on December 17, 1918 to the late Charles and Mae (Cheesebrough) Sprouse. The Sprouse family moved to Bucyrus and Mary graduated from Bucyrus High in 1937. She married Walton E. Leuthold on May 20, 1944 and he preceded her in death January 27, 1989.
Mary was a Legal Secretary for Atty. William C. Beer, Jr. After retirement, she and Walton wintered in Fort Myers, Florida and she settled there after his death until moving to Chesapeake, Virginia 10 years ago to be cared for by her son. She was a member of the former Epworth UMC. In her youth she enjoyed tennis and golf. She also enjoyed playing cards and was a member of a Bucyrus bridge club.
Mary is survived by her son, Bruce E. (Reba) Leuthold of Chesapeake; two grandchildren, Angela (David) Butler of Norfolk, Virginia and Jeff Adkins of Los Angeles, California; and four great grandchildren, Baron and Bree Butler and Sophia and Madeline Adkins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joyle Mary Leuthold; sister, Maxine Hamilton; and brothers, Samuel and Marvin Spouse.
A graveside funeral service will be held in Oakwood Cemetery Thursday, July 14 at 2:30 pm with Pastor Becky Smithey officiating.
