Mary Ann Summerson, 93, of Marion, died early Monday, April 6, 2015 at Marion Manor.

Mary Ann was born November 14, 1921 in Bucyrus Ohio to the late Joseph and Grace (Aidt) Kaupp. Being raised in Bucyrus, her family attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church and she attended grade school in the Catholic school before graduating from Bucyrus High School in 1939. Mary Ann enlisted in the Navy WAVES and served from 1942-1944.

On June 15, 1957, she married Frank Summerson and they resided in Marion. She worked at the Marion Correctional Institution, then GTE from which she retired in 1985 as a data processing clerk. She and Frank renewed their wedding vows at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on their 25th anniversary..

Mary Ann was an avid golfer and played in and was president of the Hickory Grove Golf Club Ladies League.  She was also a member of the American Legion Post 181.

Mary Ann was devoted to her family. She and Frank loved dining out, with Scotch and Sirloin being their favorite restaurant. She enjoyed shopping with her mother, but her greatest joy was when she and her father, Joe Kaupp, would watch her son, Joe, participate in various sporting events. They never missed an event.

Mary Ann is survived by her son, Joseph Bauer and his wife, SiRi of Arlington, Virginia and two grandchildren, Eric Joseph Bauer of Los Angeles and Lisa Graceann Bauer of Brooklyn, New York.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Rita Hickman.

Friends may call at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus on Thursday, April 9 from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m., after which Joe Bauer will share memories of his mother and invite others to do the same. The evening will conclude with a Rosary Service at 7:30. Funeral Mass will be Friday at 10:00 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, where full military rites will be provided by the American Legion and US Navy Honor Guards.
