Mary Alice Ross, 85, of Bucyrus died Wednesday, December 5, 2012, three days shy of her 86th birthday, at Altercare of Bucyrus where she had resided in recent years.
She was born December 8, 1926 in Bucyrus to the late Lester J. and Mary L. (Ten Eyck) Wilson. Mary Alice graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1945 and then worked at the Shelby Depot during the war before meeting a young man from Galion named Floyd F. Ross. She and Floyd were married June 20, 1948, sharing 47 years together before his death in 1995. Mary Alice was a homemaker and assistant Girl Scout and Brownie leader until all of her children were in school when she worked as a lunch lady for Bucyrus Schools at Kilbourne, Carlisle and the Middle School for over 25 years. She was also a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bucyrus.
Mary Alice is survived by three children, Marjorie (Ron) Wagenblast of Marion, Daniel (Joy) Ross of Bucyrus and Nancy (Mike) Kalb of Chatfield; grandchildren, Sheryl (Jay) Bryant, Eric (Danielle) Wagenblast, Joshua (Bethany) Ross, Jason (Erin) Ross, Andrew (Andrea) Ross, Quin Ross, Kaitlin (Aaron) Schindler and Nicholas Kalb; and great grandchildren, Kyle Bryant, Taylor Bryant, Nathan Wagenblast, Peyton Ross and Blake Ross.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Gertrude Scott.
Mary Alice will be remembered as a quiet and caring lady who loved her family. She kept busy attending her grandchildren's activities and she had albums and walls full of pictures. In earlier years, she and Floyd took up camping with family and friends, visiting a number of lakes and campgrounds. She enjoyed yardwork, flower gardening and the company of her dogs, especially her last dachshund, Heidi. Mary Alice's family always looked forward to "Cut-Out Cookie Day" baking and icing dozens and dozens of cookies each December.
Mary Alice's funeral will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 9 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus with Rev. James L. Barkenquast officiating. The Ross family will receive friends two hours prior from 1-3 p.m. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery Monday, December 10 at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to a charity of the donor's choice through Wise Funeral Service.
