Martha O. Wert, 94, of rural Bucyrus, was carried by angels of God into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Thursday, August 3, 2017.
She was born October 27, 1922 in Roswell, New Mexico to the late Harry and Flora Quaintance. Martha graduated from Mt. Zion High School and Tiffin Business College. On December 31, 1944, she married J.B. Wert and they were married for 68 years until he preceded her to Heaven in 2012. Martha worked at the Scioto Ordinance Plant during WW2, then raised her family as a homemaker and in later years, she served as the administrator for the Belle Hoffman Michael Rest Home.
Martha was a faithful Christian and member of Lighthouse Baptist Church. She was very influential to many children through her years of teaching various Sunday School classes, Vacation Bible Schools, JOY Clubs, and Good News Clubs. Her Bible namesake was certainly appropriate as a true and dedicated servant and Martha had a great love for missionary work for which she prayed daily and faithfully supported.
She had a love of gardening and will certainly be remembered for her cookie jar which was always filled with treats for her grandchildren.
Martha is survived by six children, James (Fern) Wert, Harold (Betty) Wert, Randy (Elaine) Wert, Pastor Bill (Pamela) Wert, Jane Green, and Sharon (Bill) Keener; 11 grandchildren, Marty (Troy) Hatcher, Jenny (Chris) Shull, Kimberly (Dale) Downing, Kevin (Michelle) Wert, Heather (Steve) Jackson, Stephanie (Justin) Beck, Rachel (Nate) Miller, Ryan (Jenny) Wert, Lindsay Keener, Jordan Keener, and Jacob Keener; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Warren (Barbara) Quaintance and two sisters, Alice (Larkin) Cooper and Jeanne (Ken) Lyon.
Her family will receive friends from 12-3 p.m. Saturday, August 5 at Wise Funeral Service. Her family will then gather at Monnett Chapel Cemetery for the sowing of her body to await the resurrection.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made payable to Lighthouse Baptist Church and given through the funeral home. These gifts will benefit mission work reaching Eskimo and Indian people living in Arctic regions.
