Martha Louise Baldy, 93, of Bucyrus, died Thursday, July 6, 2017 at her residence.
She was born April 21, 1924 in Corning, Ohio to the late Joseph and Louise (Franz) Siemer and graduated from Corning High School. Martha helped her father operate their family grocery store during WWII and a short time later married Edward “Pete” Baldy, whom she’d known for many years. She and Pete were married for 68 years before his death in 2014.
Martha was proud to have lovingly raised her twelve children as a homemaker. She made use of what resources were available and she often took her children to the local park or Whetstone School for laughter and play. It wasn’t uncommon for her to pack a lunch and have a picnic as they’d watch Dad drive the train through the rail yard. In 1950, they moved to Bucyrus and she became active at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and sang in the funeral choir. Martha was also a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, a telephone volunteer for Contact, Red Hat Society member and prepared taxes for senior citizens. She loved to pray the Rosary and led a Rosary Ministry with seniors at Orchard Park.
Martha was a warm and loving person who cherished time spent with family. Earlier in life she enjoyed playing the piano and listening to her children sing along. Sundays after church were often spent together with family sharing coffee and donuts and she will be remembered for her many batches of anis drops, lecherie and springerle cookies as well as her sunshine pudding. Her fried apples and homemade applesauce were second to none which she shared with others. She and Pete operated the concession stand at Aumiller Park, they liked riding bikes together and loved traveling, often to visit family. Martha kept her mind sharp by working crossword and jigsaws puzzles and Scrabble was her favorite game.
Martha is survived by 12 children, Mary Agnes (Roger) Klotz of Dallas, Texas, Ed (Rita) Baldy, Jr., Jim (Barb) Baldy, both of Bucyrus, Kathy (Tommy) Gwinn of Granbury, Texas, Dr. Greg (Barb) Baldy of Raleigh, NC, Marian (Gene) Sheibley of Bucyrus, Albert (Carol) Baldy of Raleigh, Patti (Jack) Jorgenson of Tyler, Texas, Marty (Jim) Davis of Whitehouse, Texas, Matt (Linda) Baldy of Coto de Caza, Calif., Chris (Heidi) Baldy of Murrysville, Pa. and Beth (Brian) Noack of Litchfield Park, Ariz. Also surviving are 32 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; four siblings, Rosemarie Yuhas. Bob (Marjorie) Siemer, Bill (Gloria) Siemer and Joe (Dee) Siemer as well as a sister-in-law, Barb Siemer.
In addition to her husband Pete, Martha was preceded in death by two brothers Edward Siemer and Walter(Rita) Siemer and a brother-in-law, John Yuhas.
Her family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 21 at Wise Funeral Service with a Rosary service to close the evening, beginning at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 22 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. John Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Her family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Joyce’s Angels LLC or to Ohio Health Marion Home Health Hospice through the funeral home.
