Heaven welcomed another beautiful soul with the unexpected passing of Marla J. Young, 72, of Bucyrus, on Sunday, December 10, while temporarily residing at Mill Creek Nursing and Rehab in Galion after a brief, yet, brave battle with lung cancer. She was born on June 20, 1945, in Carey, Ohio. Her beloved parents, Gerald V. and Phyllis R. (Ostby) Presler, preceded her in death. She lived most of her life in the Bucyrus area.
Marla was a 1963 graduate of Colonel Crawford High School and took pride in being a homemaker and raising her children. She had worked various places throughout her life, retiring from Broken Arrow, Inc. where she was a blessing to the men she cared for.
Many will remember her for her heart of gold, and her kind and caring spirit. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren always held a special place in her heart. She was once known for her shy, quiet demeanor, but more recently could ‘talk your ear off,’ repeatedly saying, “okay, I’m done,” only to think of one more thing to say. She’d laugh when her kids would lovingly give her a hard time or joke with her, and her “mhmm, hmm, hmm” will be missed along with her lipstick kisses.
Marla spent her spare time doing crossword puzzles, crocheting, and, at one time, painting ceramics, for which she had an amazing gift and made many gorgeous pieces. She was an animal lover, and her spoiled cat, Pooh, was a dear companion to her.
She is survived by her close, longtime friend, Ron Strauch of Crestline, with whom she enjoyed studying the Bible. She is also survived by her three children, David (Amy) Young of Mount Gilead, Lori Young (Howard) of Ontario, and Darin (Angela) Young, also of Ontario, as well as her seven grandchildren, Seth and Luke Young, Brittany (Joseph) Hurley, Austin (Tiffany Arnett) and Holden Howard, Brett and Adam Young; three great grandchildren, Arianna, Bronxton and Caegan; and her brother, Gary Presler of Bucyrus.
A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 15, at Oakwood Cemetery with Pastor Danny Akers officiating.
