Mark A. Fawley, 54, of Bucyrus died unexpectedly of natural causes Friday, January 3, 2014 at his home.
He was born in Bucyrus on April 27, 1959 to the late Dallas and Shirley (Seabert) Fawley and attended Bucyrus Schools where he played football and basketball. At age five, Mark collected coffee cans of all sizes (and tones) to put together makeshift drum sets. When he was 8, his parents bought him his first real set of drums and set him up for what became a lifelong passion of playing and teaching others to play drums.
In the late ‘70s, Mark and his friends formed the band, “Velvet Rush” playing gigs throughout Ohio and recording an album. He had a huge collection of music, but favored the bands Rush and Genesis and could play beat-for-beat drum covers of all their songs.
Mark was proud to have earned his GED was a loyal employee of the former Millington, Worthington and Blackhawk Industries in Upper Sandusky for 20 years and Marion Industries for the past eight years. In addition to his music, Mark enjoyed quiet walks at Outhwaite Reservoir and in Aumiller Park and collecting eagle souvenirs and music. He liked to cook, especially for family gatherings on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Mark is survived by his greatest accomplishment and the joy of his life, his daughter, Jayme Fawley of Bucyrus. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Krista White and Jayme’s mother, Brenda Oberdier, both of Florida and his brother, Mitch Fawley of Columbus along with numerous friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Matthew and step granddaughter, Genny Thompson.
Friends may gather on Sunday, January 19 from 2-6 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where his funeral will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. with Mark Dettmer, Certified Celebrant officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
