Mark A. McMichael, 78, of Bucyrus died Wednesday morning, November 28, 2012 at Bucyrus Community Hospital.
He was born February 1, 1934 on the family farm in Whetstone Twp. to the late Harold and Martha (Mollencop) McMichael. He went to school in North Robinson where he ran track, played basketball and baseball and was President of the Class of 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-56 and returned to marry Othell Rasnake on April 19, 1957.
He worked as a supervisor for The Timken Co. where he missed only a half day in his first 35 years with the company and retired with nearly 37 years of service. Mark held a special place in his heart for kids. He enjoyed teaching the youngsters in his family how to play sports and coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball along with fast pitch softball for a number of years.
Mark will be remembered for loving life, working hard and as an avid sports enthusiast. He loved math, crosswords, cryptograms and the great outdoors, whether tending to flower and vegetable gardens, spending weekends fishing on the lake, or pitching in fastball league with his trademark askew hat. He also bowled in his spare time to relax and seldom missed one of his family's sporting events, following the high school careers of nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Mark is survived by his bride of 55 years, Othell; their children, Mark E. (Carrie) McMichael, Arland G. McMichael and Marsha (Jeff) Sheerer, all of Bucyrus; grandchildren, Erica (Dean) Musselman, Kyle (Courtney Gary) McMichael, Allie (Brett Hunt) Sheerer, Michael Sheerer and Macey Sheerer; great granddaughter, Maddie Musselman; siblings, Geraldine Bowers of Lima, Carol Bowers of Elida, John (Joan) McMichael of Bucyrus, Marilyn Fried, Doyle (Linda) McMichael and Barbara (Bill) Rinehart, each of Crestline; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mark was preceded in death by brothers, Glen, Dalton, Carl, Gaylord and Neil McMichael; sister, Janet Wright and a special nephew, Carl McMichael.
The McMichael family will receive friends Friday, November 30 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where his funeral will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dan Rebon officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by the U.S. Army.
Memorial donations may be given to Bucyrus Community Hospital Auxiliary to assist oncology patients or HomeCare Matters Hospice through the funeral home.
