Marilyn Peterman

Marilyn E. Peterman, 77, of Bucyrus died Tuesday morning, July 2, 2013 at her residence in Carlisle House.

She was born April 16, 1936 in Bucyrus City Hospital to the late Richard and Julia (Deisler) Hollenbaugh. She was a lifelong member of Good Hope Lutheran Church where she was baptized July 5, 1936 and confirmed April 2, 1950. Marilyn graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1954. Her friend Mary Ann was seeing Gale Ruth and they introduced Marilyn to Wilbert "Pete" Peterman. She and Pete began a courtship and were married February 20, 1955.

After high school, Marilyn worked at Crawford Steel before being a homemaker. When her children grew up, she worked in the Crawford County Treasurer's office. Since her retirement, Marilyn kept busy as a volunteer in the Bucyrus Community Hospital Gift Shop and at Good Hope where over the years she served as Treasurer of Women of the Church, was active in the Altar Guild and enjoyed day trips with the Gadabouts.

Marilyn is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Pete Peterman; their children, Becky (Timothy) Wilson of Marengo and Randy Peterman of Concord, N.C.; grandson, Thomas Wilson and a number of cousins.

Marilyn will be remembered for her ever present smile and cheerful, encouraging spirit. She and Pete would often be seen at community gatherings, Bucyrus Little Theater productions and CCCCA concerts. Relay for Life and other Cancer Awareness fundraisers took on a special meaning after her diagnosis in 2003 and Pink Ribbon Beanie Babies became the prized pieces of her huge collection. She also accumulated a number of Longaberger baskets over a number of years. She learned to be a great cook from her mother, often making chocolate cake from scratch. She also froze and canned her fruit and vegetable harvest each year. Marilyn and Pete looked forward to Saturday and Sunday drives to nowhere in particular and they were fortunate enough to travel to 13 countries and much of the United States including Alaska and Hawaii. They also took pride in their holiday decorations at the Crawford County Council on Aging each year.

Marilyn's family will receive friends on Friday, July 5, from 5-8 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Good Hope Lutheran Church where her funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Harold L. Hasenauer officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Homecare Matters Hospice, Good Hope Radio Fund or Crawford County Relay for Life through the funeral home.
