Marilyn Ann Koons, 79, of Bucyrus died early Thursday, March 22, 2018 at home due to Alzheimer’s Disease and months of failing health.
She was born September 10, 1938 in Bucyrus Township to the late Ward D. and Doris E. (Kaler) McCracken. She graduated in 1956 from Tiro High School and met Delbert C. Koons at her uncle’s graduation party. She and Deb loved to go dancing when they were younger, especially square dancing and polka. They were married September 21, 1957 and he survives in Bucyrus.
Marilyn was a phenomenal cook. She worked in food service at Lykens School and then Wynford High School, retiring in 2000. At home, she loved to cook as well as freeze and can food from the gardens they kept. She was very proud of her family. Once grandchildren came along, she loved spending time with them and seeing that they all got a Christmas stocking each year. She and Delbert enjoyed wintering in Holiday, Florida for 16 years and she also was an avid reader. She was a member of Women of the Moose 669, the former Eagles Aerie, and Scioto United Methodist Church.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 60 years, Delbert C. Koons, Sr.; children, Nancy (Sid) Maples, Chuck Koons, and Douglas (fiancée Deborah Baker) Koons; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and siblings, Dolores Kalb, Carl (Marilyn) McCracken, Pamela Keith, and Walter (Franki) McCracken. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Penny Snyder and infant sister, Patricia Susan McCracken.
Marilyn’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service on SATURDAY, APRIL 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Scioto United Methodist Church, 5196 State Route 4 North with Pastor Dennis DeLong officiating. She will be laid to rest in Brokensword Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made payable to Scioto UMC and given through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. Memories and photos can be shared on her Tribute Wall.
