Marie J. Zaebst

Marie J. Zaebst, 92, of Bucyrus died Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Heartland of Bucyrus where she was being cared for after weeks of failing health.



She was born September 11, 1923 in Two Harbors, Minnesota to the late Joe and Ruth (Mallison) Cardinal. Her mother died in 1927 and Joe married her stepmother, the late Margaret Renaud. She finished high school in Minnesota and married Richard “Bud” Zaebst in 1944. They moved to Sulphur Springs, Bud’s hometown, in 1945 where they raised their family. Bud preceded her in death in 1976.



Marie was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She served as a Girl Scout leader in the 1960s and once served on the Cancer Board. She lived in Tallahassee, Florida for a number of years before returning to Bucyrus. She enjoyed reading, cooking, playing cards, and loved following updates on her beloved grandchildren.



She is survived by four children, Rob (Jean) Zaebst, Rick (Dianna) Zaebst, Mary (Chip) Collette, and Peg (Don) Lohr; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren, one brother, James Cardinal of Two Harbors and numerous loving nieces and nephews.



In addition to her parents, stepmom, and husband, Marie was preceded in death by siblings, Jeanette, Lorraine, Louis, and Joseph.



Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, September 3 at 12 Noon in Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. Paul Fahrbach officiating, followed by a luncheon, then burial at 3:00 pm in Union Cemetery, Sulphur Springs. Marie’s family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus Saturday morning from 9:30-11:30 before processing to the church.



Memorial donations may be given to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or HomeCare Matters Hospice through the funeral home. Memories and photos may be shared on the Tribute Wall.
