Margaret C. Fox, 81, of Bucyrus, died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at her home following a two year battle with lung cancer.

Margaret was born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late William Landefeld and Margaret Dinkle and at the age of nine, she came to Bucyrus where she lived with her maternal grandmother, Effie Bailey. Margaret graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1950, attended college at Mansfield Business School and on January 23, 1954 she married the only man she ever loved, James O. Fox. Together they practiced their faith, raised a family and loved traveling until he died unexpectedly as result of an automobile accident in 1983.

Margaret was an awesome and loving mom who lived to take care of her family. She began every day reciting the Rosary with her children and she loved cooking for family and friends. She took pride in their vegetable garden and spent many hours canning what it produced. In addition to being a homemaker, Margaret also worked at Bianchi’s True Value Hardware and was a hostess at The Sandwich Shoppe for many years.

Margaret was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church; Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Council 115 and worked at the Board of Elections for many years. She enjoyed vacationing with family, traveling many miles across the U.S. She had the privilege of visiting the Holy Land of Jerusalem and also visited Rome. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and cherished every opportunity to do crafts with grandchildren and great grandchildren through the years.

She is survived by six children, Mark (Patti) Fox of Bucyrus; Joan (Bill) Kirgis of Bloomville, Kevin Gerard Fox of Bucyrus, Della (Scott) Brandt of Mansfield, Emily (Alan) Dillon of Lorain, Ohio and Jim G. Fox of Bucyrus; thirteen grandchildren, Dr. Christina Fox, Jason (Jill) Fox, Carolyn (Scott) Dorn, Natalie (Adam) Witten, Amy (Kurt) Miller, Loraine (Curt Webster) Kirgis, Karla Kirgis, Elaine (Erik Vaughn) Whited, Becky (Bryan) Scheidler, Allison Brandt, Tom (Jess) Dillon, Valorie (Onaje) Arnold and Peter Dillon; great grandchildren, Brady and Sophia Fox, Angel Chapman, Chloe and Trevor Dorn, Paisley Witten, Kelsey Miller, Kristen, Kaitlin, Kaden and Keagan Vaughn, and Onaje, Jr. and Rosalee Arnold. Also surviving is a brother, Joseph (Janice) Landefeld and a sister, Carol Landefeld both of Pittsburgh; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sister Emily Fox, OSF of Tiffin, Donald (Ruth) Fox of Bucyrus, Richard Fox of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Tom (Susan) Fox of Findlay, Carl Fox of Peebles, Ohio, Anthony (Dee) Fox of Mansfield, Mary Fox of Bucyrus and Carole Fox of Marion.

In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret is preceded in death by a brother, William “Bill” Landefeld and brothers and sisters-in-law, John (Arlene) Fox, Jerome Fox, Rita (Dick) Smith, Sister Martha Fox, OP, Bob (Bessie) Fox, Ed Fox, Rosie (Roy) Stinchcomb, Toushie Fox, Paul Fox and Elaine Fox who died at infancy.

Her family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 14 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820 where the Catholic Ladies of Columbia will recite a service that evening at 5:45 p.m. A Rosary service will be held that evening beginning at 8 p.m. or at the conclusion of calling hours. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Church with both Fr. Miller and Fr. Reinhart as Celebrants. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
