Margaret Ann Anslow, 86, of Bucyrus, passed away at 1:40pm on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at The Inn at Orchard Park. She was preceded in death by her husband Ben Anslow Jr. and son David Reese Anslow. She was surrounded by family members and their unconditional love as they guided her to the next step in her journey.
Margaret (Peg to family and friends) was born January 3, 1927 in Plymouth, Michigan to Faye and Erma Davis-Brown. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1944 and attended The University of Michigan, where, during Spanish class, she noticed a handsome fellow who had been placed next to her alphabetically. Margaret married Benjamin Anslow Jr. on December 31st, 1946. A wonderful way to begin a new year! During their 58-year adventure together, they had 5 children, 4 grandchildren, 5 dogs, 3 cats, and hosted countless incredible parties.
Margaret and Ben began their family in Cincinnati Ohio and after their first 3 children, moved to Mt. Lebanon in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. They moved to Bucyrus in 1958 to Warren Street, where they could be closer to Ben's mother and father, and eventually settled on Mary Ann Lane. Margaret filled their big blue house with laughter, love, and warmth which was felt the moment you entered her home. Over the years, Margaret wore many hats, including Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Leader, Fifi LaVerne (in Ben's famous Michigan football newspapers), ballet and opera enthusiast, Covenant sister and Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church, agate hunter, antique collector, and charmer of many large animals, including whales and elephants alike.
World travel was one of Margaret's many hobbies. She loved exploring new places, meeting new people, and recounting stories of her travels to her children and grandchildren. Over many incredible trips, she visited the Canary Islands, Hawaii, the Dominican Republic, Alaska, Oregon, New York, Washington, Greece, Spain, Morocco (where she rode a camel) Puerto Rico, Panama, Costa Rica, San Juan, St. Thomas...and that was just the beginning! Margaret loved to pass on knowledge and understanding to her family, and would often encourage her grandchildren to "look it up in the encyclopedia" with her. She was a curious and interested person, and was also a master of all crosswords puzzles, convincing those around her that she knew just about everything.
Margaret is survived by her daughters Polly, Sandi, Emily and Julie, her grandchildren Nicholas, Adrianne, Jade, and Lydia, and great-grandson Leo, who will carry on her message of love, kindness, and exploration.
Her family will receive friends from 4-7pm Tuesday, July 9 at Wise Funeral Service. The funeral service will be at 11am Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church with Chaplain Dan Clouse officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Deacons of the First Presbyterian Church; CONTACT Crawford County or the Humane Society serving Crawford County through the funeral home.
