Mabel L. “Davie” Lowe, 83, of Bucyrus, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday evening, February 4, 2014 following a brief illness.
She was born January 1, 1931 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Willard and Verda (Meyers) Marsh. At an early age, Mabel lost her parents as result of a home fire and was adopted by Dale and Emma Davis and was raised in Gibsonburg, Ohio. She was a 1948 graduate of Gibsonburg High School and the Toledo School of Nursing in 1951. On August 20, 1950, she married Alan Lowe and they enjoyed 47 years of marriage before his death in 1997. Davie worked at Blanchard Valley Hospital as a RN and later as a Health Nurse at Findlay College. She retired from Bucyrus Community Hospital in 1996. Several years after Alan’s death, Davie, found companionship with Jim Cotsamire. They enjoyed time together until his passing this past year.
Her purpose in life was to be a blessing to others by meeting their needs and serving God. Davie was most recently active at Calvary Baptist Church where among other things, she had a card ministry. Davie also assisted with mailing birthday cards to prison inmates through SoundWord Ministries. She and Alan were very active in Gideons International and she was a member of the Red Hat Society and Silver Sneakers. Davie enjoyed volunteering time reading to students at Bucyrus Elementary School. She and Jim enjoyed visiting and caring for shut-ins.
She is survived by three children, Cathryn Chow of Castro Valley, Calif., Jacki (Carey) Corona of Ontario and Mary (David) Latsha of Lima; 10 grandchildren, Michael Chow, Margaux Chow, Leslie (Joe) Cinadr, Lisa (Mark) Cattran, Mike Corona, Matt (Sara) Corona, Marc (Sara) Corona, Joey (Brittany) Latsha, Jake (Kayla) Latsha and Anna Latsha; nine great grandchildren, Lauren Simpson, Savannah, Sabine and Joey Cinadr, Madison and Makenzie Frost, Ashley Cattran, Alex and Andrew Corona, and Harper Corona. Also surviving are two sisters, Edna Stebbins of Rossford, Ohio and Betty Phillips of Gibsonburg, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends who walked life with Davie.
Along with her parents and husband, Mabel is preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Tackett; three brothers, Richard Marsh, Albert Wagner and William Gossett and one sister, Doris White.
Davey was known for her spirited cheering at her grandchildren’s events and loved her many dogs through the years. She enjoyed attending family reunions and her graduating class luncheons. Some of her hobbies included fishing, camping and traveling. She faithfully swam at the YMCA, walked her dogs and worked jigsaw and crossword puzzles to keep her mind sharp. Davey could do anything from sewing to home repairs and was famous for her homemade apple pies.
Her family will receive friends from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, February 9 at Wise Funeral Service and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church where her funeral will be held, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Monday with Pastor Ken Lance officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
