M. Jean Korner

M. Jean Korner, 89, of Bucyrus died Monday afternoon, April 18, 2016 at Carlisle Place where she had resided in recent months.



She was born in Bucyrus on September 12, 1926 to the late Harold Kennedy and Winona (Brant) Malaby. After graduating from Bucyrus High School, Jean began working at GE and married Robert C. Korner on October 5, 1947. He preceded her in death on November 21, 2003.



Jean went to The Ohio State University and studied education, then worked for Col. Crawford Schools for over 20 years as a third grade teacher in the Whetstone and Sulphur Springs buildings. A lively teacher, former students still remember her standing on her head to celebrate good grades. She will be remembered for her hard work and energy in everything she did. She loved to play practical jokes, walk, bike, read, bake, and play with her grandchildren. Jean’s flower gardens were colorful and she always enjoyed her weekly games of dominos with “the gang.” She and Bob also loved to travel, visiting all over the US, fishing trips at Island Lake in Canada and the occasional casino. Jean was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church, the former Bucyrus Chapter of Eastern Star, and the Ohio and Crawford County Retired Teachers Associations.



Jean is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Terry) Rowland of Marion; granddaughter, Cindy (Joshua) Ogle; great granddaughters, Olivia Rush and Audree Ogle; step great granddaughter, Alexis Ogle; brothers, Bob Kennedy of Columbus and William (Bonnie) Kennedy of Virginia; and nieces and nephews.



In addition to her parents and husband of 55 years, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, William Malaby and brother, Jim Kennedy.



Friends may call on Friday, April 22 from 4-7 pm at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St. in Bucyrus where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 am with Gene Luidhardt, SAM officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.



Memorial contributions may be given to Good Hope Lutheran Church or Homecare Matters Hospice through the funeral home. Memories and photos are encouraged to be shared on Jean’s Tribute Wall.
