Lucy Brown

M. Lucile "Lucy" Brown, 92, of Bucyrus died Tuesday night, August 7, 2012 at Bucyrus Community Hospital.

Lucy was born April 12, 1920 in Bucyrus to the late Herbert and Zelma (McMichael) Stiefel. She graduated with the Sulphur Springs Class of 1937 and also attended Mansfield Business School. Lucy worked in retail at K & E, then the A & P Store and was married to Robert J. Grauer from 1942 until his death in 1950. On March 29, 1952, Lucy married Robert L. Brown and he preceded her in death on April 7, 1996 after 44 years of marriage.

Lucy was a lady who, more than anything, enjoyed staying busy. While raising her family, she was active in the PTA, Brownies, Scouts, Babe Ruth Baseball and the Bucyrus Athletic Boosters. Later, she was an active volunteer in the auxiliary and Twig 3 of Bucyrus Community Hospital, served on the election board and never missed one of her children's or grandchildren's sport or school events. Lucy was always available to canvass neighborhoods to raise support for causes she felt were worthy and still found time to help Bob in his law office as well.

Lucy is survived by her three children, Michael (Beth Howlett) Brown of Galion, Roger Brown and Kathryn (Blaine) Bahm, both of Bucyrus; grandchildren, Michele Brown, Shawn Brown, Elliot Brown , Austin Brown, Bryce Bahm and Taylor Bahm; great grandson, Noah Burns and her sisters-in-law, Eileen Stiefel of Galion, Mary Brown of Bucyrus and Janet Fowler of New Mexico.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Lucy was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence, infant Delwyn, Elwood and Myron Stiefel; sisters, infant Naomi and Edith Shumaker and her grandson, Michael William Brown.

Lucy will be remembered as a strong, conscientious and decisive person who loved her family, friends, church and reading her Bible,. She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bucyrus, teaching Sunday School, serving on Council, singing in the choir, member of the Friendship Class and COTTA and volunteering wherever needed. She and Bob enjoyed a round of golf or league bowling and Lucy was always an avid reader, regularly finishing 15-20 books a month. After Bob's death, Lucy took bus trips and enjoyed eating meals, especially Wednesday lunch and Friday dinners, with friends.

The Brown family will receive friends Friday, August 10 from 5-8 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Her funeral will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Don L. Neumann officiating. Burial will follow in Sandusky (Twp.) Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the Bucyrus Area YMCA through the funeral home.
