Lois K. Ide

Lois K. Ide, 90, of Bucyrus, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Altercare of Bucyrus. She was born June 3, 1920 in Swanton (Fulton County), Ohio to the late William and Olive (Foote) Kyper. She married Carl J. Ide on June 12, 1943 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Columbus.

Lois is survived by two daughters, Monica Sue Kauffman and husband Larry of Bucyrus and Beth Ellen Ide of Albany, NY; three grandchildren, Amy L. Jarvis of Bucyrus, Eric Johns and wife Jean of Bucyrus and Christopher Kilkenny of Albany, NY; five great grandchildren, Jamie L. Johns, Lindsay M. Johns, Brente M. Jarvis, Rachel Pifer and Derrick Pifer, and one great-great grandchild, MacKenzie Grace Rittenour, all of Bucyrus.

In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Dr. Carl J. Ide on November 20, 2010 and her son, Gregory C. Ide, who passed away in 1981, and two brothers, Guy D. and Karl H. Kyper.

Lois was a 1938 graduate of Swanton High School and in 1941 graduated from Toledo Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as an R.N. at Children's Hospitals in both Detroit, Mich. and Columbus, Ohio. She also worked for Dr. Carl J. Ide when he opened his private practice in 1946.

Lois was a member of the first Bucyrus Red Cross Bloodmobile Committee in 1948 and was instrumental in organizing the International Friendship Club and the local hospital TWIGs. She was a member of the National Guild of Decoupeurs, Life Member of the Garden Club of Ohio, Crawford County Medical Auxiliary, The Gathering of Quilters Toledo Guild, and Cover Girls of Crawford County. She was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church where she served as Sunday School teacher, pianist, and Bethel Series teacher. She was also a Girl Scout leader and active with the Boy Scouts.

Lois was well known locally and nationally in the quilt world through her published writings in several books, as well as through her lectures and workshops. Her quilts have been shown in several museums including the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. and she has donated quilts to the Ohio Historical Museum in Columbus where they are still on display.

Lois enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and sharing her artistic abilities with others.

A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 4 at Good Hope Lutheran Church with Pastors David Bliss and Harold Hasenauer officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation through the funeral home.
