Lois A. Brewer, 87, of rural Sycamore died early Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Carlisle Place in Bucyrus where she had recently moved after a few months of failing health.
She was born in Crawford County on January 3, 1931 to the late Franz M. and Mary W. (McLaughlin) Stetzer. Lois graduated from Holmes-Liberty in 1949 and went to nursing school in Toledo, becoming an RN. She returned to Bucyrus where she worked for Bucyrus Community Hospital before joining The Timken Co. in the late 60s where she was the plant nurse and retired in 1991. Lois met Harold J. Brewer after his return from the service and they were married from October 17, 1953 until his death on May 5, 2014.
In addition to her nursing career, Lois helped Harold and their sons on the farm, spoiled her beagles, and tended to her flowers, especially the purple petunias. She loved her family and especially looked forward to visits from her grandchildren because they brought the great grandchildren with them. Lois was also an avid reader, crossword puzzle solver, and regularly watched several television programs and Hallmark movies. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Rosary Altar Society, and had recently attended Red Hat Society meetings. She and Harold enjoyed going out to eat most weekends and they were longtime BINGO volunteers for both Holy Trinity and the Humane Society.
Lois is survived by two sons, Daryl Brewer and David (Lynn) Brewer; two grandsons, Jeremy (Melissa) Brewer and Christopher (Mindy) Brewer; and great grandchildren, Allison, Aubrey, Mason, and Lily.
In addition to her parents and husband of 60 years, Lois was preceded in death by her brothers, Albert (Lucille) Stetzer and Frank (Jean) Stetzer and Harold’s siblings, Vernon (Geraldine) Brewer and Martha (Neil) Beard.
Lois’ family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus on Sunday, September 9 from 2-5 pm and concluding with Rosary Service at 5 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Monday at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Paul Fahrbach as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made payable to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, American Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer’s Association through Wise Funeral Service. Memories can be shared on Lois’ Tribute Wall.
