Liz Hammaker

Naomi Jean Hammaker, 82, better known as Liz by family and friends, died Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Walnut Creek Nursing Center in Kettering, Ohio. She lived most of her adult life in Bucyrus and had been living in the Dayton area for the past five years to be close to her daughter.



She was born December 18, 1933 in Marion to the late Hobart and Roxie Marie (Ralph) Clonch, Sr. Liz resided in Marion until marrying Harold A. Hammaker and moved to Bucyrus. He preceded her in death in 2009.



Liz spent many years as a hostess, greeting thousands of individuals with her addictive smile. She was adored by countless customers at the L & K, Brown Derby, Perkins, Bob’s Sandwich Shoppe and lastly, Bob Evans. Her faith was a very important part of her life. She was a member of the Bucyrus Seventh Day Adventist Church where she formerly served as treasurer and secretary as well as believed in regular attendance.



Liz always put the needs of others ahead of her own and honesty was one of her stronger characteristics. She cherished time spent with her daughter and other family members, especially during the holiday season, and when not working or with family, she could often be found at a garage sale or flea market with her best friend and garage sale buddy, Imogene.



Liz is survived by her daughter, Ruth Hammaker of Dayton; brother, Hobart (Donna) Clonch, Jr.; sister, Barbara Williams both of Marion; two sisters-in-law, Norma Jackson, of Marion and Jeanette (Bailey) Hawkins of Johnson City, Tenn,; numerous nieces and nephews as well as her close friend, Imogene Pinson of Bucyrus.



She was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Hazlett and Edith Clonch and brother-in-law, Donald Williams.



Her family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, November 3 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St. in Bucyrus, where her funeral will begin that day at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Marcellus de Oliveira officiating. Burial will follow in Sixteen Cemetery.



Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Hospice of Dayton through the funeral home.
