Linda L. Kessler, the only daughter of Robert and Geraldine (Swartzmiller) Kessler, New Washington, became pain free peacefully at Altercare of Bucyrus on Monday, August 16, 2021. She was 71.
Born November 28, 1949, Linda grew up in a time before the term “special needs” became the norm. She was always “special” and brought much joy to her family and friends. Families with individuals like Linda have a disdain for those who use the term “retarded.” Linda was sassy, yet gentle and could be stubborn but she always had a calming effect on those around her. She loved being independent and enjoyed time spent with friends at the Workshop. Linda loved doing crafts, playing cards, and doing number books. Her favorite music was Elvis, and she was elated to have visited his home in Graceland.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins and two sisters-in-law. Left to mourn the loss are her brothers, Joseph Kessler of Crestline, Bernie (Nancy) Kessler and Tom Kessler both of New Washington; nephews, Justin Kessler of Attica and Gabriel (Jennifer) Kessler of Mansfield; a great niece, Addison Kessler of New Washington; one aunt, Jean Evenden of Troy, Ohio and numerous cousins. Also mourning the loss of Linda is her special caregiver, Diana Nickler, whose strength, and endurance during her time with Linda has been an inspiration to her family.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Broken Arrow Inc., Kim Kent and the staff at the Board of Developmental Disabilities and the staff at Altercare.
All services for Linda will be held on Saturday, August 21 at Wise Funeral Service. 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus. A Rosary Service will begin at 10:30 am, calling hours from 11 – 12:25 pm and her funeral service will begin at 12:30 with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. A private inurnment will take place in St. Bernard Cemetery and be held at a later date.
Donations can be made payable to either Crawford County Special Olympics, Humane Society Serving Crawford County or to the Bucyrus Backpack Program, LLC. These gifts will be accepted through the funeral home and memories are encouraged to be shared on her tribute page.
