He was born February 18, 1917 in Liberty Twp. to the late Chester and Rosa (Ackerman) Schwartz. Leslie graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1934. He took Janet Harvey on their first date to the Cleveland Exposition. She accepted a proposal because he was fun and made her laugh and they were married October 6, 1940, sharing 71 years of love and laughter.
Leslie is survived by Janet; their six children, Gene (Rosie) Schwartz, Gary (Gale) Schwartz, Judy (Lyle) Candel, all of Bucyrus, Joyce (Bob) Gibson of Prospect, Joanne (Larry) Fullenkamp of N. Lewisburg, and Jackie (Dave) Cochran of Bucyrus; 22 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; sisters, Esther Schwartz and Lucille (Paul) Wagner, both of Bucyrus, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Leslie was preceded in death by his sisters, Viola Weidemaier and Leona Kibler.
Leslie was a witty, fun-loving jokester who loved his family and often responded to jokes and stories with a hearty, "Oh Boy!" He farmed his entire life and retired from GE in 1983 after 18 years of service. Born to travel and sightsee, Leslie and Janet traveled all over the world and the United States, especially enjoying the mountains out west. When at home, he tended to his yard, pond and flower gardens and built birdhouses of all sorts. He also loved playing cards with friends and family. He was a member of the former Bucyrus Aerie of the Eagles and Bucyrus United Methodist Church. Leslie was an avid sports fan, following Cleveland Indians, Browns, Ohio State and Col. Crawford athletics. A founding member of Col. Crawford's "Front Row Gang," Leslie enjoyed countless basketball games over his lifetime.
