Leroy D. Eidson

“It’s been a lovely cruise. I’m sorry it’s ending, oh it’s sad, but it’s true.”

LeRoy D. Eidson’s lovely cruise came to an end Monday afternoon, June 5, 2017 at his home where he received friends and family all weekend. He aggressively battled cancer since being diagnosed in December 2014.

He was born in Bucyrus on February 6, 1954 to the late Austin “Buster” Eidson and Lillian (Clark) Eidson who survives. He began painting when he was 12 to earn enough money for his first car at age 16. Time spent with his Grandpa Eidson was also cherished. LeRoy met Tina K. Bloomfield at Bible School when they were grade schoolers, went on their first date in October 1970 where they enjoyed the first of many Cokes over the years, and they were married June 30, 1973. “Mr. Timken” was a dedicated and loyal employee of The Timken Co. for 43 years, most of which were spent in shipping.

Roy will be remembered for being a friend to all, dedicated family man, and for always having a joke to share. He took meticulous care of his lawn, always proud to show off his “golf course” to visitors. He also could be seen at many flea markets, second-hand stores and sales looking for treasures to add to his diecast car and sign collections or just enjoying the company of friends. Never one for extravagant vacations, he was content to stay home and work on projects, but he did take his family on one last vacation to the Outer Banks of North Carolina before his diagnosis.

Over the years, Roy became a devoted “Parrot Head,” organizing trips to area Jimmy Buffett concerts and often sporting a Hawaiian shirt or Buffett t-shirt. He took up golf in recent years and loved the company of many dogs, especially his current companion, Buster. Roy enjoyed reminiscing over an episode of The Andy Griffith Show and seldom missed an opportunity to feed someone who was down on their luck and hungry.

LeRoy is survived by his wife of 44 years, Tina; mother, Lillian; children, Todd Eidson (Becky Teynor), Kerri Dunford (Aaron Raitch), and Chris (Marcie) Eidson; grandchildren, Marley, Simon, Henry, Little Simon, Audrey, Kelsey, Lauren, Lacey, Adalyn, Zachary, and Sophia; brother, Randy Eidson; special cousins, Jerry (Mary) Clark; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

In addition to his dad, Roy was preceded in death by his brother, David Eidson.

The Eidson family will receive friends on Friday, June 9 from 2-6 pm at Wise Funeral Service where his “Big Dance” will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 with Celebrant Mark Dettmer officiating. Those attending are asked to wear their favorite island attire and Buffett t-shirts as they send him off.

Memorial donations can be made payable to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN) or American Cancer Society and given through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on his Tribute Wall.

“Honey, it’s been a lovely cruise.”
