Laura Viola Gossard Seeger, 100 who resided in both Marion and Galion for much of her life, died peacefully Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Mill Creek in Galion.
She was born September 8, 1920 in Cairo, Ohio to the late Lawrence and Ruth (Martz) Waltz and was a 1937 graduate of Lima High School. Laura was also proud to have received her secretarial education certificate following high school. In 1942, she married Leland Gossard and they created many memories until his passing in 1976. Together, she and Leland operated the Singer Sewing Shoppe in Galion. Laura also worked at PECO II and completed her work career with the Galion City Light and Water Office, where she was employed for many years.
Laura and Leland enjoyed the time spent raising their family and many weekends were spent camping at Riverbend in the Marion area. Laura also spent many hours working in her vegetable garden and probably spent nearly as much time canning what was grown. Shortly after the passing of her first husband Leland, Laura married George Seeger, who had recently lost his spouse. For many years, they enjoyed living six months of the year in Lake Whales, Fla. where they socialized with many friends. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Laura was a confident woman with a determined attitude, and often lived life on her terms. She will be remembered for her baking and cooking abilities and often shared a fresh piece of pie with friends or family as a token of her appreciation. She liked to knit, crochet, and sew as well as sit at the organ and play for the enjoyment of others. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Organ Club.
Laura is survived by her children, Kenneth (Barb) Gossard and Kathy (Ken) Ketterman; son-in-law, J. Forest Swain; stepchildren, Patricia (John) Scharer and Paulette (Jim) Schill; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Marilyn (David) Spallinger as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kandace “Kandy” Swain; stepdaughter, Jan (Jim) Bennett; stepson, Gus Seeger and sisters, Marguerite and Norma.
A private graveside service for Laura will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Galion.
Donations can be made payable to either the Salvation Army or to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County. These gifts will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus who handled her cremation arrangements. Memories and expressions of sympathy are encouraged to he shared on her tribute page.
