Laura J. "Laurie" Sturtz

Laura J. “Laurie” Sturtz, 69, of Columbus, Ohio died, Friday, March 06, 2015 at Mayfair Village following a lengthy battle with renal cell cancer.

She was born August 23, 1945, the daughter of Frederick F. and Jemima Scott Sturtz, both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by five siblings: Charles F. (Judy) Sturtz, Ashton, MD, Melvin J. (Joan) Sturtz, Fairborn, OH, Kathryn M. (John) Friend, Mount Gilead, OH, John M. (Silvia) Sturtz, Okeechobee, FL and Randall S. (Nancy) Sturtz, Fairborn, OH, along with seventeen nieces and nephews and many cousins and friends.

A 1963 graduate of Colonel Crawford H.S., Laurie earned a BS degree in business from Tiffin University in 1967. She worked at several businesses in the area until she moved to Columbus. She retired in 2012 completing a twenty-seven year career at the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy.

An accomplished pianist, having been taught to play as a child by her mother, Laurie was the accompanist for the Bucyrus Community Chorus for twenty-two years. She was also accompanist for several productions by the Bucyrus Minstrel Show and the Bucyrus Little Theatre. She was the musical director at Washington Street United Methodist Church, Tiffin for forty-one years.

Funeral services for Laurie will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 14 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820 with Rev. Jeff Lanzer officiating. Her family will receive friends prior to the funeral from 9:30-11 a.m. and burial will follow her funeral service in Union Cemetery.
