Larry Lee Wagner, 80, died Sunday, February 9, 2025 at Bucyrus Community Hospital after years of failing health.
He was born October 30, 1944 in Sycamore to the late Ernest and Leefe (Pfeifer) Wagner and graduated from Mohawk High School in 1963. Larry enlisted in the US Army, serving from 1965-1968 and returned to work for the John H. Neate Garage in Upper Sandusky until he met Sherry Daniel when she brought her car in for service to the radio. Following a brief courtship, they married on April 19, 1969, and shared 54 joyful years of marriage until she preceded him on October 30, 2023. After getting married, Larry worked for The Timken Co. for 26 years. He then worked briefly at Hebco and before getting his CDL which enabled him to drive truck. His work at Valley Transportation in Ashland enabled him to see most of the country. He also drove for Miller Ag Service, Mattix Farms/M&W Farm Supply, and Hord Family Farms.
Larry will be remembered as a hard-working provider for his family. Though he was a man of few words, his wisdom always came through when he did speak, and many friends and family took notice. An avid outdoorsman, he hunted deer and rabbits and had some very loyal hunting dogs. He also liked fishing on Lake Erie aboard his boat, “Grumpy,” which was also his CB handle. He dabbled in making maple syrup, was a 4H Advisor with the Mount Zion Buckeyes, American Legion member, and a volunteer fireman with Bucyrus Twp. for over 16 years. A Jack of All Trades and Master of None, Larry always tried to fix things himself. At home, Larry helped Sherry with the gardening and found it relaxing to sit on the back patio. Larry enjoyed motorsports of all kinds along with the Buckeyes and Browns.
Larry is survived by two sons, Kevin Wagner and Chad (Charity) Wagner; two grandchildren, ChayLinn (Nicholas Jeffrey), and Chayde Wagner; three great grandchildren, Canik, Creed, and Cadex; brother, Richard (Angela) Wagner; sister, Mary Margraf; brother-in-law, Marvin (Beverly) Daniel; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Ilene Young, Harold Wagner, Paul Wagner, Glen Wagner, Martha Bogart, Sylvia Bell, and Ronald Wagner; in-laws, Leonard and Martha Daniel; and brother-in-law, Bill Daniel.
Friends and family are asked to gather at Larry’s graveside service in Oakwood Cemetery on Friday, February 14 at 1:00 pm. Military rites will be given by the US Army Honor Guard and Bucyrus Veterans Military Funeral Detail and Certified Celebrant Lisa Snyder will officiate the service.
The Wagner family is grateful for the attentive care provided by staff at Avita and Cleveland Clinic. If desired, donations can be made payable to Bucyrus Twp. VFD and given through Wise Funeral Service. 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus. Memories and photos can be shared on the guestbook of Larry’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
