Larry Dean Smith

Larry Dean Smith, 74, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away Thursday, January 23 after an 18 month battle with brain cancer.

He was born to the late Josephine Kelly and Gerald Smith February 14, 1939 and was a 1957 graduate of Bucyrus High School.

He and Cheryl (Sherri) Clayton married in 1970, and they lived together in the Bucyrus area before relocating to Florida in 1986.

Larry is survived by his wife Sherri, a sister Linda Young (Bucyrus), a brother Terry Smith (Lancaster area), sons Terry Smith (Mansfield), Sean Smith (Sarasota), Shane Smith (Brunswick, GA) and daughter Jill Hartshorn (Delaware). He also is survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Larry worked as an insurance adjustor for State Farm Insurance and retired in April, 2004.

He was a member of the Bucyrus Jaycees for over ten years and once held the honor of Parade Marshall for the annual Bratwurst Festival. Larry had a love for cars and was a part of the Pipers Auto Club. He was also active in the Bucyrus Little Theatre for some time.

Larry was an avid golf fan and enjoyed playing golf with his friends.  He loved returning to Ohio and spending time with his family.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 30 from 5-8 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service, 129 West Warren Street, Bucyrus, Ohio.  Funeral services will be Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. with Mark Dettmer, Certified Celebrant officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
