Larry A. Blubaugh, 86, died peacefully March 17, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of OhioHeath Hospice.
He was born, June 26, 1935 in Shelburn, Indiana to the late John C. and Fern E. (Grantham) Blubaugh. Larry’s family made their way to Ashland, Ohio when he was a teen and he graduated from Ashland High School in 1954. Later that year, he volunteered to serve in the U.S. Army. After his discharge in 1956, he married the former Mary A. Van Gilder on September 2, 1957.
Larry’s work career brought him and his family to Bucyrus in the early 1960s. He was a familiar face here in Bucyrus at the former Foodland and IGA markets, before moving on to the Department of Transportation, State of Ohio, in Crawford County. Larry retired in 1998 and since retirement, Larry’s life has been consumed with family events and golf. He also played guitar, enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and more golf.
Larry was a 60-year member of the Masonic Order, active in DeMolay, Elks Lodge #156, Moose Lodge #669, the former Bucyrus Country Club, and the AHPC. He was a member of the Lincoln Avenue Church of Christ.
Larry is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary; children, Lori & Bill Wilburn and Michael & Kathy Blubaugh; grandchildren, Aaron & Kalin Wilburn, Adam & Kimberly Wilburn, Sarah & Chris Biller, Lee & Jodi Blubaugh, and Heidi & Rob Breyley; great grandchildren, JW, Alana, Jace, Isabella, and Makenna; sister, Diana, brother-in-law, John Coleman; sister-in-law, Joyce, brother-in-law, Stanton McGuire; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Janelle Blubaugh and his in-laws, Don & Margaret Van Gilder.
Private services will be held, and Larry will be laid to rest in Vermillion Cemetery, Hayesville, Ohio with military rites.
