Kenneth Harold Rader, 69, of Tiro, died Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Altercare of Bucyrus. He has been in failing health for the past few years.
Kenneth was born June 2, 1945 in Ashland to Chester J. and Ethel M. (Leibolt) Rader. His mother died earlier in his life and his dad married Frances June Cuppy who also helped raise Kenneth. She, along with his parents, precedes him in death.
Kenneth graduated from Plymouth High School in 1964 and immediately enlisted with the US Navy. He was stationed in various places throughout the U.S. but finished his service time at Camp David where he personally worked for President Lyndon B. Johnson. He returned to the area and began working for PPG and remained there until his retirement some 35 plus years later. Kenneth married Lynn Roberts on May 15, 1971 and she survives.
Kenneth was big on reading biblical stories from his Bible and loved being a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Washington where he had served on church council, enjoyed getting together with the Wednesday morning men’s prayer group and was very responsible for the church’s food pantry. He was known for his massive vegetable gardens and gardened anything that would grow. He loved being outdoors and whether cutting wood, fishing or spending summer weekends with family at the Lake Erie cottage, he took advantage of every outdoor moment. Kenneth also enjoyed cooking and though spaghetti might have been his favorite meal, he wasn’t afraid of trying something unique.
In addition to Lynn, his wife of nearly 44 years, Kenneth is survived by two children, Danelle (Edwin) Schneider of New Washington and Christine (Jeff) Keller of Columbus; six grandchildren, Tyler Schneider, Avery Keller, Oliver Keller, Sofia Keller, Cailey Schneider and Cierra Schneider. Also surviving are two brothers, Dean (Annie) Rader and Carl (Grace) Rader both of Tiro; one step-brother, Howard (Marlene) Cuppy of Shiloh and one step-sister, Arlene (Howard) Coleman of Huron
Kenneth is preceded in death by a brother, Edward E. Rader and a sister, Martha Leone Rader.
