Kathy Lee Mizick, 69, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus following a brief battle with cancer.
She was born November 13, 1946 in Bucyrus to the late Alfred and Eloise (Musser) Lydick and was a 1964 graduate of Wynford High School. Kathy grew up and spent her entire life on the farm; a place which allowed her to be one with nature. She also worked as an accounting assistant for George Boyd and Hugh Howard before joining John Mizick; a business relationship that lasted 40 years until their retirement in 2012.
John and Kathy later discovered they were soul mates and, following a long period of companionship, they married in 2003, making him an official “sod buster” as he was from the city. They both had a love of the outdoors and with Kathy’s agricultural background, they became co-founders of H & M Family Farms where they specialized in raising grass fed animals in addition to many other natural products they produced.
Kathy had a big heart and loved being around family; especially her grandchildren. There were many tummies filled at their annual chili cookout in the fall and many memories were formed during ornament day and Christmas cookie baking day held each holiday season. Christmas Eve was also a memorable time, as her family gathered to sing carols and the evening ended with the reading of the Christmas Story and singing the 12 Days of Christmas.
In addition to her husband John, Kathy is survived by her greatest accomplishments: her three sons, Steve (Candee) Hall, Mike (Angie) Hall, and Dan (Virginia) Hall. They learned to appreciate her good cooking, the clothes that she made and the examples she set and are forever better people because of her constant love. Kathy is also survived by Kelly (Wayne) Nelsen whom she considered a daughter, and Jackie (Roy) Laswell; 12 grandchildren, Kristen, Tyler, Tucker, Chelsea, Matthew, Samantha, Lindsay, Ethan, Katherine, Ryan, Shane, and Alexandra; sister, Diann Stinehelfer; sister-in-law, Rita Lydick; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Matt Lydick.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 3 at Wise Funeral Service, where her funeral will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Her family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made payable to either Crawford County 4-H or Friends of the Crawford Park District through the funeral home. Memories are encouraged to be shared on her tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
