Karen Coomer

Karen Sue Coomer, 69, of Bucyrus died peacefully Wednesday evening, April 29, 2015 at Bucyrus Community Hospital after a recent illness.

She was born in Madison County on April 18, 1946 to the late Dale and Virginia (Bush) Smith. They later moved to Marion where Karen attended Marion Harding High School. She was previously married to Larry Coomer and was a longtime companion of the late Connie Clarkston.

Karen retired from the Quaker Oat Co. and then worked at a video store and Peco II as well. She will be remembered for her love of all wildlife, especially birds. She enjoyed drives in the countryside to look at animals and loved being a homebody, filling her many feeders and watching the finches, redbirds and bluebirds visit along with the companionship of her cockatiel, Pepper. She looked forward to family gatherings to celebrate Christmas and bring in the New Year. They will miss Karen’s distinctive “Tarzan Call” to announce meals were ready.

Karen is survived by three children, Dawn Coomer Booker, Todd (Sheryl) Coomer and Chad Coomer; five grandchildren, Brent (Jarrenn) Richardson, Devin (Brie) Stewart, Farrah Stewart, Brock (Madison) Coomer and Jamie Coomer; three great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Camilla and Eli; step grandson, Travis Stewart and his children, Levi and Kaden; and two sisters, Norma Brake and Wilma (Stan) Mehaffey.

She was preceded in death by her parents; longtime companion, Connie Clarkston; and brother-in-law, Will Brake.

Although no ceremonies will be observed, friends are asked to remember Karen with a donation to the Ohio Bird Sanctuary in Mansfield.

Make checks payable to “Ohio Bird Sanctuary” and mail to: Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820.
