June A. Berry, 87, longtime Bucyrus resident, died peacefully Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Kingston Residence of Marion after several years of failing health.
She was born June 6, 1930 in Bucyrus to the late Hobart “Whitey” and Marie (Smith) Kurtz. She graduated in 1948 from Bucyrus High School where her beautiful smile caught the eye of Edward G. Berry. The high school sweethearts were married March 18, 1951, sharing 65 years before his death on April 17, 2016.
June studied X-ray technology at White Cross Hospital in Columbus and worked in the Imaging Department at Bucyrus Community Hospital until retirement when she consulted part-time for Con-Stan and Nutra Metics. She will especially be remembered for her devotion and caregiving to family and friends alike. Her handmade cards are cherished along with knitting projects and needlework. A woman of deep faith, she was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served as church librarian as well as committee work.
Outside of church and work, June looked forward to holidays with family. Every holiday was celebrated and her delicious potato salad was expected to be served. She and Ed enjoyed playing cards with friends and she loved music and dancing despite Ed’s two left feet. When grandkids and great grandkids came along, she was always there with a listening ear, good advice, peanut butter toast, and most importantly, lots of love.
June is survived by three children, Denise (Kris) TenEyck of Delaware, Renee (Doug) Leuthold of West Chester, and Jim (Darla) Berry of Crooksville; four grandchildren, Jeff (Nana) Fishpaw, Mark (Heather) Fishpaw, Taylor Berry, and Jenna Berry; six great grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, June was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothea Steiger Yaussy and Virginia Tomlinson.
June’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 6 from 4-7 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus and on Thursday from 10-10:45 am at Good Hope Lutheran Church. The funeral will be held at Good Hope at 11:00 am Thursday with Gene Luidhardt, SAM officiating and burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Those wishing to make memorial donations are asked to give to the Salvation Army or Good Hope Lutheran Church and can be given at the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on June’s Tribute Wall.
