Joyce Ann Nelson, 75, was called Home, Tuesday, October 10, 2017 following her death at Altercare of Bucyrus.
She was born March 30, 1942 in Buckhannon, WV to the late Robert Lindsey and Ethel Ovella (Gillespie) Taylor. Soon thereafter, her family moved to Ohio where Joyce lived a majority of her life especially in the Crawford and Richland County areas.
When her children were younger, she helped around the farm as well as sold Mary Kay, a business that would eventually involve her daughters. As they grew, Joyce showed off her sewing skills by working as a seamstress and also spent several years at Timken.
Her passion was following Christ and she instilled this in the lives of her children. Anything Christ asked of her, Joyce gave. She was active in many churches over the years with some of her involvement including; sewing for the church, serving as a choir director and playing the organ, involvement with the youth as a Sunday School teacher and she will be remembered for her puppet teaching lessons. Joyce proudly took God’s word to nursing homes by reading her Bible to those in need and she loved reciting scripture.
She was a hands-on mother and grandmother who loved taking advantage of every opportunity that involved creating memories, even if it meant riding a motorized dirt bike, which only occurred once. And everything they did had to involve laughter. She found strength in reading her Bible, loved sewing and spent a lot of time in the vegetable garden, which gave her plenty to can.
She is survived by four children, Sherry Knudson of London, Ohio, Steve Vining and Janet (Reuben) Hamilton both of Mansfield and Diana (Daniel) Quaintance of Bucyrus; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and two sisters.
Joyce was preceded in death by a son, David Vining; two grandchildren, one great grandson and two siblings.
A public graveside funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 13 at Oakwood Cemetery, 835 Kaler Ave., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820 with Minister Stephanie Rueckert officiating.
Donations in memory of Joyce, can be made payable to either Alzheimer’s Association or to HomeCare Matters Hospice. These donations will be accepted the morning of her service at the cemetery or can be mailed to Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820.
