John Wesley Nunn Sr.

John W. Nunn, Sr., 76, of Bucyrus, died Friday, November 15, 2013 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus with his family by his side.

He was born May 24, 1937 in Marietta, Ohio to the late Wesley and Elizabeth Bell (Warfield) Nunn. John grew up in Marietta where he attended school until joining the US Air Force and served for a portion of the Korean War. Following that, he joined his father and brothers at Nunn’s Tree Service. During this time period he married Rosemary Burchett the mother of his children and she survives him. They divorced and John moved to Galion, Ohio where he cared for his mother. His last formal job was operating a crane at Marion Power Shovel until he retired.

On July 3, 1999 he married Patty Henry who survives. John did live life a little on the wild side, making sure he got the most out of it. Earlier in life he spent some time in Columbus Ohio where he learned to box and was fairly gifted in the ring. He also loved cliff diving and whenever an opportunity presented itself, John took a plunge. He was the type of guy who could take random things and create something of beauty. He had a Mickey Mouse collection and enjoyed watching the Browns, Indians and Buckeyes. John also liked to fish and work in the garden but his two most favorite past times were to hunt for anything he was allowed to shoot and going junking or scrapping metal. He loved his family and did what he could to provide for them. Recently his hip had been causing him a great amount of pain and this gave him the chance to just relax with wife Patty and C.J. his cat which made him happy.

In addition to Patty, John is survived by his children, John W. Nunn, Jr. and wife Patty of Kingsport, TN, Christina Rose Nunn and Connie Marie Stevens both of Marietta and Shelly Miller of Belpre, Ohio; two stepsons, Jason (Kim Mullins) Caskey of Marion and Don (Melissa Rogers) Caskey of Manchester, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, six step grandchildren as well as many great and great-great grandchildren. John is also survived by four brothers, Herb (Star) Nunn and Wayne (Edna) Nunn both of Marietta, Ronnie (Barb) Nunn of Kentucky and Toney Nunn of Akron; three sisters, Judy (Wayne) Jarrett of Beverly, Ohio, Shirley (Missy) Nunn of Galion and Mary (Chet) Burchett of Warren, Ohio in addition to one uncle, Buster Warfield of Marietta.

His family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 19 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820 where funeral services will be held that day beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Mark Dettmer, Certified Celebrant officiating. Full military rites will be provided at the funeral home by both the US Air Force and American Legion Post 181 honor guards.
