John R. Miller, 75, of rural Bucyrus, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on December 12th, 2014 following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
John was born in Bucyrus, Ohio on March 16th, 1939 to Garrett and Fern (Mollencop). He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandra (Caldwell), sister Naomi Clady, brother-in-law Robert Caldwell and sons; Todd (Cindy) Miller of Galena, OH and their children Morgan, Carson and Jackson; Mark (Adrienne) of San Clarita, CA and their children Mikaela and Preston; and Craig (Julie) Miller of Bucyrus and their children Hunter and Payton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Janice Neikirk, his brother-in-laws Dr. George Neikirk and Walter Clady, and his sister-in-law Jane Caldwell (Pugh).
Following his graduation from Mt. Zion High School in 1957, he began his career working at General Electric in Bucyrus and worked there until he was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1961. John served on active duty at Ft. Hood, TX until 1963. He continued his service in the US Army Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1968. After serving in the Army, John worked for almost 31 years at the Timken Roller Bearing, until his retirement in 1999.
A man of strong faith, John was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and more recently of Bucyrus United Methodist Church. He served for many years as an usher and greeter at both churches.
John enjoyed spending his spare time hunting, trapping and fishing. Above all, he loved being with his children and grandchildren, watching and supporting them in their many activities.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 17th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. There will be a calling hour at 10am on Thursday December 18th followed by the Funeral Service at 11am at the Bucyrus United Methodist Church, corner of Warren and Walnut Street, Bucyrus, with the Rev. Mike Corwin officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery with full military rites being provided by the American Legion Post 181 and the US Army Honor Guard.
