John H. Kiess

John H. Kiess, 72, of Great Falls, Virginia, died Saturday, November 19, 2011 following a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born August 1, 1939 in Bucyrus to the late Dr. John S. and Lucy M. (Roelle) Kiess. John was a 1957 graduate of Bucyrus High School and graduated from Miami (Ohio) University in 1962. Following college, John served with the US Army and in 1974, he married his sweetheart, Linda Jo (Theobold) whom he met while attending Miami University.

John worked in computer program design and computer trouble shooting and was well respected for his talents. He was loyal to his work and to his family and John always had much respect for the town of Bucyrus. The people, the lifestyle it offered and he always enjoyed helping Uncle John on the farm when growing up.

John took a great interest in the financial pages, always aware of the many changes in the market. He enjoyed watching the Fox news channel, specifically the O'Reilly Factory which always gave him and his cousin Jim Spreng something to talk about when they got together. Although he enjoyed financials, his passion was tennis! Watching, playing or talking about it, tennis made John happy. He played from college up until his health no longer permitted him to, both leisurely and competitively.

In addition to his wife of 37 years, John is survived by his greatest accomplishment, his daughter Jennifer Kiess who resides in Woodbridge, Virginia. John is also survived by a sister, Joan (Alain) Kenley Gauthier of Oakland, Calf.

Funeral Services for John will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Wise Funeral Service with Pastor Don Neumann officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or to the American Lung Association through the funeral home.
