John F. McDaniel

John F. McDaniel, 72, of Bucyrus, died Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Bucyrus Community Hospital.



John was born July 26, 1945 in Tiffin, Ohio to the late James and Louise (Fritz) McDaniel and was raised in Lemert where he attended Holmes Liberty High School. On June 2, 1968 he married Sharon L. Motter whom he met on a blind date and they shared a loving marriage for 49 years until her recent passing on December 30, 2017.



John’s work career began at the Morton Motel and a few years later he was hired into Checkmate where he retired as a supervisor. John had been active at Harvest Temple Baptist Church where he assisted as financial secretary for a few years as well as taught individuals basic auto mechanic skills. He more recently attended Beech Grove Wesleyan Church.



John enjoyed time spent with family and being outdoors. He was handy and crafty with his wood working skills and could often be found mowing the lawn or splitting wood. His passion was golf and he enjoyed many rounds with friends at various area courses over the years. He liked his Folgers Instant Coffee and no matter how bad he felt, he always had a smile to share with others.



John is survived by a daughter, Nana (Jeff) Fishpaw of Bucyrus; two grandchildren, Joshua (Elexis) Barlow and Nathaniel Barlow; two step-grandchildren, Nick and Nate Fishpaw; three siblings, Harold (Pam) McDaniel, Margaret Amert and Etta Cook all of Lemert; mother-in-law, Dortha Motter as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark J. McDaniel; a grandson, Thomas A. Barlow and father-in-law, Robert Motter.



Friends may call from 5-8 pm Wednesday, January 17 at Wise Funeral Service, where his funeral will be held at 11:00 am Thursday with Pastor Brad Smith officiating. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery in Clyde.



Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
