Jodi D. Young, 46, made her way to eternity with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, February 21, 2022 at her home under the care of her family and North Central Ohio Hospice. God’s love and peace has been with her through a grueling pancreatic cancer journey.
She was born August 22, 1975 in Bucyrus to the late Chester E. Graham III and Cynthia (Pennington) Shumaker who survives. She went to Bucyrus Schools and Pioneer JVS where she studied accounting and graduated in 1994. She then worked for GTE/Verizon as a Data Sales and Training Specialist. Jodi then joined the medical field and worked for Fresenius as a Dialysis Tech and then Scott Chiropractic as an office assistant until her health no longer permitted.
Jodi was a committed woman of faith who always put God and everyone ahead of herself. She was a great planner who loved lists, staying organized, and helping others. She came to faith and was active at Bucyrus Nazarene Church where she was a youth leader, Sunday School board member, Children’s Church teacher, sang in the choir, served on the sound and media team, and helped plan and decorate for events. She was introduced to Wayland Young in 2011 and they were married September 28, 2013. She then joined Faith Point Community Church where she was a youth leader and served on the church board.
Outside of work and church, she loved becoming a wife and mother. She liked hiking with Wayland and Emily, sewing and crafts, musicals, Frank Sinatra, and traveling. Jodi was an excellent hostess, leaving no detail behind. She threw great parties and enjoyed sharing her talents for hosting, decorating, baking, and cooking with Emily. Though her life was taken too soon in the eyes of those who loved her, she rested in her deep faith and was an example of how to live by faith. She loved people where they were and displayed her faith with her actions rather than only her words.
Jodi is survived by husband, Wayland Young; daughter, Emily Young; parents, Dave and Cindy Shumaker; brothers, Jason Graham and Ryan (Jill) Shumaker; nieces and nephews, Athyna, Keanna, Eisley, Nolen, Ian, Sophia, and Kieran; father-in-law, John (Cathie) Young; and sister and brothers-in-law, Sherry Jividen, John (Rina) Young, and Cody (Jessica) Young.
In addition to her birth father, she was preceded in death by mother-in-law, Sharon Young; paternal grandparents, Chester Graham Jr. and Bettie Gongaware; and maternal grandparents, Cam and Rebecca Pennington.
Jodi’s family will receive friends on Monday, February 28 from 1-3 and 5-7 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 1 at 10:30 am at Faith Point Community Church, 521 Kaler Ave., Bucyrus with Pastors Vernon and George Lore officiating. Burial will follow in Brokensword Cemetery.
Memorial donations are encouraged to be made payable to Faith Point Community Church or Hospice of North Central Ohio and given through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Jodi’s Tribute Wall.
